TGJTA Online Jewelry Sourcing Project Service to be Promoted at 42nd Bangkok Gem and Jewelry Fair

The Thai Gem and Jewelry Association (TGJTA) will promoted its new service, the Online Sourcing Project (OSP), at the 42nd Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair this month.
Somchai Phornchindarak, CEO of TGJTA's Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, noted: "The OSP service is a perfect tool for prospective gem and jewelry buyers who require a roadmap for navigating the Thai gem and jewelry industry. The massive size and varied supply of Thai industry is one of our greatest strengths, but it can be overwhelming for visitors. OSP is designed to simplify their job, by enabling them to search for and pinpoint the exact gem and jewelry products that they are interested in sourcing."

Bangkok Jewellery Show Opens Thursday

The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair will start on Thursday at the Impact Challenger exhibition center in the Thai capital. The 42nd edition of the show will run from September 11 to 15.
"As Thailand is one of the world's foremost cutting and trading centers for diamonds and colored gemstones, we view the local jewelry market as a potential market for our services, and in particular our HRD Antwerp certificates", Dirk Dullaert, chief officer commercial operations at HRD Antwerp, said in a statement.
HRD Antwerp, the commercial arm of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, will be participating in the show's educational program.

OSP is an interactive Internet-based service designed to enable foreign buyers source Thai gems and jewelry in the most effective and convenient way possible.

CARLSBAD, CALIF. - Sept. 5, 2008: The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Alumni Association will hold its GemFest Hong Kong 2008 during the Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Room 601.
GemFest Hong Kong will feature a presentation by Dr. James Shigley, GIA Distinguished Research Fellow, on how GIA scientists collect and analyze samples from known geographic sources to support the Institute's country-of-origin reports and build an ever-expanding database of gemological information on colored gemstones.
GemFest participants will also hear about Shigley's recent expedition to gem mining sites in Tanzania.

Sotheby's Important Jewels, Sept. 25

Sotheby's New York will hold a sale of Important Jewels on Sept. 25 that includes a selection of signed and period estate jewels and white diamonds. The sale consists of approximately 450 lots and is estimated to bring $11 to 15 million. The pre-sale exhibition opens Sept. 20.
Highlight of this sale is an exceptional group of period jewels, mostly by Cartier, that showcase art deco and retro jewelry design. The collection, which will open the second session of the sale and is property from a private collector, comprises more than 40 lots, the majority of which are examples of classic 1930s and 1940s style.

Tiffany 2Q Sales Up 11%

Tiffany & Co. said Thursday that strong net sales growth in Asia-Pacific and Europe led to an 11 percent increase in worldwide net sales in the second quarter.
Combined with a higher operating margin, this resulted in a 21 percent increase in net earnings from continuing operations and a 31 percent increase in earnings per diluted share in the quarter, ended July 31. These results enabled the company to slightly increase its earnings expectation for the full year.
Net sales in the second quarter increased 11 percent to $732.4 million. On a constant-exchange-rate basis which excludes the effect of translating foreign-currency-denominated sales into U.S. dollars, worldwide net sales rose 7 percent and same-store sales declined 1 percent.
