Anyone interested in rocks, gemstones and fossils should venture to Parrsboro for the 43rd Nova Scotia Gem and Mineral Show Aug. 15 to 17.
Formerly known as The Rockhound Roundup, visitors will have the chance to see gems, jewelry, minerals, fossils, beads and bugs at the show. There will also be workshops and demonstrations for visitors where they can learn about rock polishing, gold panning and silver smithing.
Daily guided field trips to Joggins, Five Islands and Wasson Bluff fossil mineral sites will also be offered for all those interested.
The show's opening ceremonies will be on Friday at 1 p.m. where the winners of best fossil or mineral, best lapidary (stones especially gemstones) and best overall display will be announced.
The show opens for the public on Aug. 15 at 10 a.m at the Lion's Arena on the corner of King Street and Western Avenue. On Friday and Saturday it will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 for anyone over age 12.
The show is sponsored by The Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro.
