Rough diamonds from Venezuela have been banned by India after the former pulled out from the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).
"The import of rough diamond from Venezuela shall be prohibited in view of voluntary separation of Venezuela from the KPCS and to cease certification for export of its diamonds," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade in the Commerce Ministry, who notified the aforementioned ban, was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying.
KPCS, established in 2000 with the backing of UN, is an international process designed to stop the flow of so-called conflict diamonds into the legitimate diamond trade. India is a founding member of KPCS.
